How big is 100 square feet?

100 square feet (9.3 m²) is a 10 × 10 ft room, or 8 × 12.5 ft if it is longer than it is wide.
100 square feet is a room ten feet on each side. It is the size of a small spare room, a home office, or the bedroom a house listing calls “single” — and comfortably more than the 70 sq ft the US model building code asks of any bedroom (bedroom sizes). In an apartment it is often the whole kitchen.
At that size the furniture decides the layout rather than the other way round: a single bed along one wall leaves a walkway and not much else, and a desk facing the window uses up the rest. Tiling it takes 110 square feet of tile once the usual 10% for cuts and breakage is added, as Daltile advises; how many boxes that is depends on what the carton says it covers, so read it off the box rather than guess.
If you are measuring a room that is close to this, be careful with the alcoves: a chimney breast takes four or five square feet out of a 100 square foot room, which is a noticeable share of it.
